Sports Premium
PE and Sport Premium
What is the PE and Sport Premium?
The PE and Sport Premium is additional funding provided by the Government to help primary schools improve the quality of the PE, physical activity and sport opportunities they offer to pupils.
The premium is designed to help children get an active start in life, supporting schools to improve the quality of their PE, physical activity/literacy, and sport provision so that pupils experience the benefits of regular exercise.
Following Britain's success in the Olympic Games, the Government introduced this funding to create sustainable improvements in Physical Education and help raise attainment in PE for all children.
The funding is intended to make a long-term impact by improving teaching, increasing participation in physical activity, and promoting healthy lifestyles that can be sustained beyond the funding itself.
Our Vision
At St James Infant School, we support achievement in all areas of physical activity for all children.
We respect and value the unique physical abilities of our school community and recognise the important contribution that participation in physical activity can make to children's physical, social and emotional development.
We are committed to creating an active, safe and high-quality approach to all aspects of physical development, encouraging health, wellbeing and fitness for life.
Our Priorities
We use PE and Sport Premium funding to support sustainable improvements across the school. Our key priorities are:
- Fund interschool competitive opportunities.
- Develop children's positive mental attitude to enhance performance.
- Train staff to provide sustainable out-of-hours extra-curricular sporting opportunities.
- Develop the capacity of midday supervisors and sports leaders to promote physical activity at playtimes.
- Resource playtime sports activities.
- Promote links between physical activity and general wellbeing.
How We Use the Funding
The PE and Sport Premium helps us provide high-quality opportunities that encourage children to:
- Develop fundamental movement skills.
- Take part in a range of sports and physical activities.
- Build confidence and resilience.
- Enjoy competitive and non-competitive physical activities.
- Understand the importance of healthy lifestyles.
- Develop positive attitudes towards physical activity from an early age.
By investing in staff development, resources, extracurricular opportunities and active play, we aim to ensure that all children benefit from a broad and engaging physical education experience.
